The aim of the study was to study the effect of impurities of d / f-metals in the composition of La(Zr)-SiO2, Mg(Ce) -Al2O3 oxide compositions on their functional properties as catalysts for the conversion of ethanol to 1,3-butadiene and 1-butanol. The objects of study were oxide composites Zr-SiO2, Mg-Al2O3 modified with impurities of d- (Cu, Ni, Ag, Zn) and f- (La, Ce) metals. Research methods: Auger-electron spectroscopy, thermodesorption mass spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron near-pressure spectroscopy (10 mbar), infrared spectroscopy, high-resolution scanning electron microscope together with energy-dispersion chromatographic X-ray spectroscopy. The conditions of formation of adsorption centers of catalysis arising on d-metal atoms and how they affect the selectivity of the catalyst (reaction reaction product) and the influence of "stabilizing" impurity of f-metals in oxide composites on the efficiency of the catalytic process are clarified. The composition of the reaction reaction products was determined and the structural defects and morphological changes for each model catalyst were investigated. The positive effect of the simultaneous presence of zirconium oxide and lanthanum in multicomponent catalysts for the production of 1,3-butadiene from a mixture of ethanol and water by the Lebedev method is shown. From the obtained results, a catalyst material was selected for the conversion of ethanol to 1,3-butadiene, which has an optimal balance between the number of redox and acid-base active centers.
