The purpose of the research is to determine the optical characteristics of polarization gratings recorded in new materials based on azobenzene; analyze the suitability of these materials for dynamic holography applications and for manufacturing of optical diffraction elements. The research methods include recording of polarization lattices and determination of their optical characteristics on the classical installation of polarization holography. Polarization gratings are recorded in a series of azobenzene molecular glasses samples at different states of polarization of recording rays. We investigate the characteristics of the obtained polarization gratings, in particular, their diffraction efficiency and angular selectivity. We found that only a three-dimensional anisotropic grating is formed (and the surface relief lattice is absent) when we performed recording from the side of glass substrate. For this geometry it is possible to rewrite the grating repeatedly without any memory effects. We constructed the system for determining the refractive index of the polymer and the thickness of the polymer film in a three-component air-polymer-glass system using a single-wave multi angle photometric ellipsometer with a rotating analyzer. The control of the system operation was performed by analyzing the interference patterns obtained on a two-wave two-channel Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
