Research work is focused on a unified approach to the subjects of forensic science and research of various material media, digital images, photographs and video frames in all types of mental and practical activities, in order to provide conditions for prevention of epistemological errors that are especially relevant for a forensic expert who conducts research in the expert specialty 6.1 "Research of photographic images and technical means of their manufacture." The novelty of the work is the first developed methodology which specifies the methods, techniques, software and hardware and their application in a certain sequence, when performing research, taking into account the specific objects of forensic phototechnical examination. Research methods described in the scientific work are general, general scientific and special methods (visual, image enhancement, image format analysis, advanced image analysis). The effectiveness of the implementation of the obtained results of research work is the use of phototechnical, portrait examination and examination of holographic images in the expert specialty 6.1 "Research of photographic images and technical means of their manufacture" to address issues.
