At the first stage of the research project, an analysis of the experience on land degradation processes research, in particular, desertification and desertification indicators research, which can be estimated using remote sensing data has been conducted. Regional features and causes of desertification in the area of the Oleshkivsky sands massif are analyzed. Software methods of automated remote sensing data processing are considered. The accumulation of long-term satellite data acquired by Landsat series satellites was also performed in order to further the desertification indicators mapping.
