It has been shown that the sensors or sensory industry is now a trend that is actively developing around the world. This is due not only to the proliferation of personal applications, but also to high demand from industry, where sensor systems are now becoming more widespread, forming the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). As a result, the market for industrial sensors is expected to continue to grow. It is shown that due to the lack of a state strategy for the development of own science-intensive areas of scientific and technical activities, the development and production of sensors and new materials, as well as other science-intensive products in Ukraine remains insignificant and tends to decrease. An additional negative effect is a significant reduction in the demand among future graduates for professional education related to science and engineering. Among the factors that caused the current situation are insufficient funding for scientific and technical developments by the state, as well as low demand for high-tech and innovative products from many sectors of Ukraine's economy, including the defense industry, despite current legislation on promoting the development of high-tech products. The own experience of developers and manufacturers of sensor products (ionizing radiation detectors) and analysis of trends in the global market show that the development of new materials for modern sensors and other high-tech and innovative sectors of the economy requires significant financial costs and significant renewal of technological base, as well as providing training for highly qualified specialists on the basis of specialized institutions of higher education.
