Based on the use of the latest technologies of classical, molecular and introgressive selection, as well as methods of genetic engineering, competitive genotypes of winter wheat have been created, combining high productivity with resistance to insufficient moisture. It was found that winter wheat varieties that contain wheat-rye translocation 1BL.1RS are characterized by high resistance to drought. Hexaploid synthetics have been shown to be a powerful source of improved drought-resistant wheat. It is shown that white grain selection material of winter wheat is characterized by high drought resistance potential in conditions of acute moisture deficiency in the phases of grain formation and filling. Physiological and genetic criteria for assessing drought resistance of wheat plants have been developed both at the molecular level and at the level of the whole plant, and the links between drought resistance and other agronomic traits have been established. The mechanisms of regulation of photosynthetic processes that underlie the formation of high productivity of wheat plants under changing environmental conditions, including drought, have been elucidated. Agrobacterium-mediated transformation methods have been used to obtain genetically modified wheat plants, which are characterized by an increased level of resistance to water deficiency. Methods of molecular genetic diagnostics of drought-resistant genotypes of cereals have been developed and implemented in the selection process. Drought-resistant donor genotypes involved in the selection process have been identified.
