It is established that Ni nanoparticles (Nps) possess their own hydrogen capacity. By using SEM, TEM, BET, X-ray powder diffraction and X-ray low-angle scattering analysis for Ni and Ni-Cu Nps the dependence of sorption / desorption of hydrogen versus crystal size was established. A special attention was paid to the preparation Ni NPs by chemical reducing (Ni nano-sized) and leaching (Ni Raney) technics, which can be used in negative electrodes (Ni-MH batteries) as high-conductivity binders with additional discharge capacity. The obtained Ni NPs powders showed high electrocatalytic properties and could be recommended for the manufacture of composite materials for negative electrodes together R-Mg-Ni like intermetallics. The efficiency by using Ni nanopowders as catalytic additives in the process of hydrogen generation by NaBH4 hydrolysis is shown. It should be mentioned that Ni, Ti and TiO2 nanopowders as catalytic additives significantly improve the hydrogen sorption-desorption parameters of the composites based on MgH2; they decrease temperature of hydrogen release to 150-200 C.
