The final typology and identification of the Seversky Donets Basin in accordance with the requirements of the new national legislation and the WFD principles have been completed. Reference conditions have been established and classification tables have been developed to assess the ecological status of all types of MWPs in this basin. A preliminary assessment of the ecological status of the Seversky Donets River basin was made on the basis of phytoplankton parameters and its verification was performed based on the results of studies of phytobenthos, higher aquatic plants, invertebrates and fish. Analysis of the results of this year's field research of various rivers made it possible to develop classification tables to assess the ecological status of MWP for all biological quality elements, to establish the values ​​of background hydrochemical indicators and concentration levels of specific basin pollutants that determine the limit.
