The purpose of the work is to develop theoretical and applied provisions for assessing the risks of emergencies in Ukraine. Research method - comparative-geographical, typology, ranking, correlations, statistical analysis, methods of graphic, cartographic modeling, typological matrix, geoinformation methods. The relevance of the study is determined by the increasing frequency of emergencies in Ukraine, which cause huge economic losses and human casualties. Therefore, in response to the existing need, a methodology for assessing the risks of emergencies was developed and the place of geographical approaches in it was shown: - the basic concepts and terms that are important to consider when assessing the risks of potential emergencies are clarified; - formed an idea of ​​the classification of emergencies; - analysis of different types of standards in the field of risk management, - methodological approaches in the assessment of natural and anthropogenic, socio-economic risks and risks of economic activity are considered; - cartographic analysis of potential sources of emergencies was conducted; - a methodology for risk assessment has been developed. The approbation of the risk assessment methodology on the example of model areas has been tested. The risks of emergencies in the natural and economic regions of Ukraine - Kyiv and the Left Bank of the Dnieper - have been assessed. The results of the assessment of the risks of possible emergencies are necessary for the development of management decisions to prevent and prevent emergencies.
