Research methods: modulated fluorescence, biochemical analysis, protein electrophoresis, chromatography, infrared gas analysis. Coordination of photosynthesis and respiration was determined in the study of unicellular microalgа Euglena gracilis. It was shown that the respiration rate tripled, and the rate of oxygen evolution depending on light doubled after the addition of 100 mm ethanol. As a result, the equilibrium oxygen concentration in the culture media was significantly reduced compared to autotrophic control. Data on the dependence of the photosynthetic O2 evolution, as well as the maximum quantum yield of Fv / Fm on light intensity showed that the presence of 100 mm ethanol in the medium protected the mixotrophic culture from photoinhibition. The obtained results suggest that the synergistic effect of illumination and ethanol on the growth of E. gracilis is due to a decrease in total oxygen concentration in the mixotrophic system, which stimulates the photosynthetic process, reduces assimilated carbon losses during photorespiration and reduces photoinhibition. The dependence of light-dependent ATP synthesis in spinach chloroplasts (Spinacia oleracea L.) on the level of inorganic carbon in the medium was studied. The stimulating effect of bicarbonate on ATP synthesis has been confirmed both under conditions of photophosphorylation and due to artificially created ΔpH.The results confirm the presence of carbonic anhydrase activity (CA) in the catalytic part of the ATP synthase complex, which may facilitate the transfer of protons absorbed or released in the reaction of synthesis or hydrolysis of ATP, respectively.
