The need to increase the content of the applied component in the content of teaching mathematics, which will ensure the student's ability to act successfully in educational and life situations, to conduct future professional activities. Didactic and methodical requirements are determined, the observance of which ensures the applied orientation of mathematics teaching. It is substantiated that the successful implementation of the applied orientation of school mathematics education involves a three-component teaching methodology, which includes three interrelated components: the organization of empirical generalizations aimed at "discovering" the mathematical fact by students; logical ordering of educational material; application of mathematical facts in practice. The conclusion is made: three-component teaching methods, which ensures the compliance of educational texts of the process of applying mathematics to solve practical problems, strengthens the applied orientation of the content and thus improves the mathematical training of students. The functions of competence-oriented tasks are determined, in particular: activation of students' cognitive activity; organizational; motivational; psychological comfort and success situations; worldview; educational; control and evaluation. The stages of the organization of activity concerning the decision of competence-oriented tasks are offered: awareness, problem statement and problem formulation; problem solving (availability of necessary knowledge; identification of lack of knowledge to solve the problem, which is a powerful motive for their independent acquisition); design of solving a problem situation (solving a problem and interpreting the result).
