The aim of the study: study of regularities of formation of external radiation doses during cone-beam computed tomography procedures to optimize the protection of patients and medical staff. Research methods: computational, physical, analytical. Results: a comprehensive approach is proposed to determine the doses for individual volumes (organs and tissues) of head and neck irradiation in patients, which are formed during the use of new diagnostic technology of CBCT. The technology includes modeling of the conditions of irradiation of the head and neck in the patient undergoing diagnostic procedures for CBCT, for a wide range of types of equipment and modes of use. Doses in radiosensitive organs (thyroid, salivary glands, lens of the eye, brain) and tissues (eg, hippocampus), located in the head-neck area of the human body were determined by calculating doses to the head and neck using computer simulation by Monte -Carlo method using the original hybrid mathematical phantom of the human body with selective validation of the results of calculations by physical phantom measurements. The specificity and accuracy of dose determination for these organs has no analogues among existing technologies.
