The purpose of the study is to substantiate the directions of stimulating the development of mechanical engineering in Ukraine on the basis of increasing the level of localization of production in conditions of global instability. Research methods - systematic approach, trend analysis, factor and comparative analysis, correlation and regression analysis, methods of balance estimates. The latest trends in the development of mechanical engineering in terms of regions of the world and leading countries producing machine-building products have been verified. The key factors of formation of relatively low competitiveness of domestic engineering products in the European market are outlined. The balance of Ukraine's foreign trade in machine-building products is calculated. Correlation-regression models of dependence of GDP on the volume of exports and imports of mechanical engineering products are constructed. The organizational and legal features of the functioning of domestic and international corporations in Ukraine in terms of basic segments of mechanical engineering are identified. A comprehensive diagnosis of key trends in the development of mechanical engineering in Ukraine in terms of output, airborne forces, exports and imports. The current state and dynamics of domestic engineering, compared to the Polish, according to indicators of the degree of depreciation of tangible assets, the level of innovation of products (sold in domestic and foreign markets), productivity and wages in this sector.
