Within its framework, it is shown that for different values of the control parameters, two burning modes are possible: on a traveling autowave and a wave supported by neutrons from an external source. A The theory of neutron moderation, including the temperature of the medium and taking into account the finite dimensions of the moderating medium, was developed. The theoretical expressions for the neutron spectra were used to calculate the neutron spectra in hydrogen and uranium-carbon media. The neutron spectra for fuel media of different composition and structure have been investigated. For various types of reactor fuel, the temperature blows up regimes possible for implementation have been determined. Dispersion fuel with ceramic fuel in a carbon matrix and carbon fuel block, metal uranium fuel in a carbon fuel block, spherical fuel rods and cermets can be considered promising for an epithermal wave nuclear reactor. For the first time, 1D modeling of epithermal wave burning of the uranium-plutonium fissile medium lasting 150 days and 3D modeling of epithermal wave burning of the uranium-plutonium medium in cylindrical and spherical geometry were carried out. The dynamics of wave combustion was investigated at different powers of the external neutron source. The schematic diagram of the design of an experimental epithermal wave nuclear reactor has been developed. An estimate of its thermal power is given.
