The object of research is the process of structural and technological modernization of heat supply of large cities of Ukraine. The purpose of the research is theoretical and methodological substantiation and practical recommendations for determining the directions of structural and technological modernization of heat supply systems of large cities of Ukraine. Research methods - statistical, theoretical generalization, analysis, synthesis, systems analysis. The most important results of the study and their novelty: the basic tendencies of development of systems of heat supply of separate cities are defined, the directions of structural and technological modernization of systems of heat supply are substantiated; identified the main shortcomings of regulations that hinder the development of heat supply and developed recommendations for improving regulations and regulations; the theoretical and methodical substantiation of the basic directions of organizational and technological modernization of system of heat supply of the big city is developed; developed criteria for selection of local boilers for their conversion into cogeneration units; the methodical approach to an estimation of efficiency of separate actions for modernization of system of heat supply is developed; the basic model of system of heat supply of the big city is constructed; the sequence of construction of the basic model of heat supply of the big city is substantiated; a description of the current state of production, transportation, supply and consumption of heat in Kharkiv; the basic model of the heat supply system developed at the previous stages of work is specified for the conditions of heat supply of Kharkiv.
