The aim of the research is to develop a concept and methodology for predicting the critical load values and destructive values of the parameters of the stress-strain state of inhomogeneous shell structural elements, in particular, tanks, dry compartments of launch vehicles, etc. without carrying out their full-scale destructive tests. Numerical and experimental methods for studying the bearing capacity of shell models were used. The analysis of the published results and knowing methods for basing the reliability of mathematical models and numerical algorithms for calculating the bearing capacity of inhomogeneous shells of revolution was carried out. Development and improvement of methods for assessing calculation errors and their application to establish a relationship between the deviation of input data (physical and mechanical characteristics, geometric dimensions, load values) from their real values on a full-scale structure and the error of the calculation results. Numerical experiments to research the sensitivity of the results of calculation the stress-strain state of composed shells and shells with holes from errors of the input data were fulfilled. The obtained results make the foundations for a new conception of reliable design prediction of the bearing capacity of complex structures. The results of this stage of research are introduced into the educational process of students of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
