Objects of research: effective medium theory for small metal particles placed in a dielectric medium (composite materials). Purpose: modification of Bruggemann's theory of effective environment to determine the response in the optical field. The theory of effective dielectric permeability of Bruggeman for a medium with metal nanoparticles has been improved by replacing elementary scatterers. It is shown that the effective dielectric constant of Bruggemann can lead to absorption even when no material in the composite absorbs and a modification is proposed that allows to narrow the range of non-physical results. The technique can be used to calculate the frequency dependence of the effective dielectric constant for different thicknesses of the intermediate layer of the matrix material.
