The study goal – is a comprehensive study of historical and cultural processes in southern Ukraine from antiquity to the present. Methodology. The methodological basis of the research was in the principle of problem and chronological researches, statistical method, comparative and method of historical reconstruction. Theoretical and practical results. The south of Ukraine is a region with a special model of historical and cultural development. The dynamics of historical processes took place in full connection with the geographical landscape, which was determined in some way by the system and direction of migration flows. As a result, a single model of colonization and urban processes has been formed in the region. Novelty. Substantiation of the concept of migrationism in the formation of the ethnopolitical picture in the region during the last three millennia. Practical value for society and the economy. The results can be used by specialists in this field for further research; executive bodies of local authorities in the development and implementation of ethno-national policy in the region; also in the educational process for the preparation of students, masters, graduate students with the help of special courses, special seminars, course, diploma, master's, dissertation works in this scientific direction. The results of the study can be used in writing textbooks, lecture courses, educational and methodological programs for the training of specialists in history and related specialties of the humanities.
