The information of the CITES Secretariat in the Notification to the Parties № 2008/053 of 22 August 2008 is also taken into account. The main purpose of the Rationale is to ensure that Ukraine fulfills its international obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in the part concerning sturgeon species. The structure of this document corresponds to the four principles set out in Resolution 12.7 of the establishment of export quotas for sturgeon. Ukraine joined CITES in 1999, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine of 14 May 1999 № 662-XIV. Without adequate scientific and analytical support, it is impossible to successfully protect the national interests of Ukraine within CITES. Such protection consists, in particular, in solving the following tasks: - development of scientific and analytical materials in the direction of CITES to ensure the implementation of relevant measures by Ukraine, organized (in the part concerning sturgeon species) by the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine as the national administrative body of CITES for sturgeon species; - support of domestic producers of sturgeon species (in aquaculture) to ensure their competitiveness along with foreign producers.
