The study purposes are to reveal the peculiarities of modernization in region; to find out the specifics of displaying various aspects of modernization in the intellectual sphere. The result of the work was coverage the manifestations of social modernization in Dnieper Ukraine in a wide chronological range. The concept of modernization waves in the period of XVI - XX c. was proposed, types of modernizations were highlighted. A generalization of the influence of modernization on changes in the ethnic structure of the population in XVI - XX c. was made. Various aspects of the history of region were revealed with the frontier approach. For the early modern era for the first time comprehensively considered the phenomenon of Cossack prey; informational significance of publications of the French-language newspaper in the early XVIII c. to reflect the transformations in Ukraine was determined. For the modern era for the first time comprehensively covered Italian influences on the economic development of Dnieper Ukraine in the XIX c., identified reverse influences. The consequences of modernization in Russian Empire for the Cossacks strata were determined. For the first time in such volume proved the influence of the Ottoman Empire on the processes of modernization in Dnieper Ukraine. New aspects of influence of Polish movement on Ukrainian were defined. Some aspects of intellectual history were revealed in the conditions of social modernization. The peculiarities of intellectual modernization of communities in the Ukrainian diaspora in XX c. were determined, with using of Dnieper Ukraine tradition.
