Mechnikov National University popup.description2 The authors presented conclusions on the determination of the specifics of development and transformation of the school and higher education system in the region, its individual aspects, for example, in the field of physical education, studied biographies of famous scholars, scientists and educators. The authors studied the process of formation of historical memory in relation to the educational space as an integral part of spiritual history, supported with historical sources and historiography to study of the activities of representatives of military-historical direction in the historiographical process in the southern Ukraine, international connections of southern Ukrainian historians of the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries, historiographical process in the south of Ukraine in the all-Ukrainian, European and world contexts. The group of authors determined the specifics of the development of certain aspects of archival research in the region, the use of history in the non-academic sphere, in particular in the public space of the city – through monuments, museums, celebrations and rituals, toponymy, themed restaurants, popular periodicals and the media. Conclusions were obtained on the study of publications of regional scholars in the local periodicals, especially in Odesa and Simferopol, the study of the mental space of Odesa during the revolution of 1917-1920, including the context of the practice of "red" terror.
