The possibility of obtaining transgenic chard plants by direct regeneration from transgenic roots after Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated transformation was shown. Transgenic chard plants after Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation were obtained too. PCR analysis of obtained chard, alfalfa, and tobacco plants confirmed the presence of bacteriocin genes (colicin M or salmocin) and selective genes (bar and nptII) in their genomes. For three alfalfa transgenic plants, expression at the transcriptional level of the transferred colicin M gene was confirmed by PCR in combination with reverse transcription (RT-PCR). Antibacterial activity for some lines of obtained transgenic plants of alfalfa and chard was confirmed in experiments with laboratory strains of E. coli: XL1-Blue and DH10B. For two lines of chard and three lines of alfalfa, the antibacterial activity of the plant extract was shown, which persisted until its dilution to 1:16. Predictive assumptions on the development of the object of study: studies of the antibacterial activity of extracts of transgenic plants and analysis of the expression of bacteriocinеs genes in these plants will be continued to select transgenic lines of alfalfa and chard that exhibit the highest antibacterial activity.
