Ways of solving the issue of increasing active and passive safety on the roads were considered, changes in the volume of transport environmental load were studied using the example of the city of Kharkiv. The question of the feasibility of determining traffic parameters in large cities, taking into account the dynamics of traffic flows, is considered. A description of the practical implementation of contour traffic control on the street and road network of the city of Kharkiv is provided. An assessment of the impact of elements of bicycle infrastructure on the efficiency of the functioning of intersections has been determined. The purpose of the work is to improve traffic safety based on the study of road traffic patterns in cities, country roads, and railway crossings. Research methods — mathematical and simulation modeling of traffic flows, in particular bicycle flows, analysis of safety indicators, probabilistic methods of determining the risks of road accidents and laws of distribution of parameters of traffic flows. An analysis of transport and social safety of road traffic in Ukraine and abroad was carried out. The results regarding the improvement of road traffic safety are provided, prospective measures for the organization of road traffic, which affect road safety and increase its efficiency, are determined.
