Subject of research is changes in time and space of landscapes under the influence of the reservoir. A study was carried out regarding the functional place of the Kaniv Reservoir in the cascade of Dnieper reservoirs. The reservoir is a source of additional inflow of solid runoff, also the accumulation of biogenic elements, which causes water eutrophication and generally worsens its quality (including for communal and drinking water supply for reservoirs located below (water intakes of the cities of Cherkasy, Kremenchuk). It is a powerful regulator of the passage of extreme floods, due to the transfer of a significant amount of water from the Kyiv Reservoir and the Desna River. Overgrowth of the upper part of the water area is stimulated by the entry of a large amount of biogenic elements and the coast development. This is sharply reducing the flow rate of the water body. It is noted that increasing the number of hydromorphic landscapes, new land creation by dredges, and their further settlement development in shallow waters and on the lands adjacent to them (Kozyn Valley) reduces the regulatory capacity of the reservoir, increases the threat of negative consequences of extreme floods passing through the reservoir.
