The results of the strength, hardness and fracture toughness (crack growth resistance) tests of ZrO2–(3-8)Y2O3 ceramics were presented and metallographic and fractographic studies were conducted, which are systematized in the album of microstructures. The influence of sintering modes on the microstructure of ceramics, their phase composition and physical and mechanical properties was analyzed. The parameters of the microstructure, phase composition and modes of obtaining high-strength ceramics were determined. Models of crack growth depending on the evolution of the ceramic microstructure were proposed.
