The subject of the study is the method of integrated teaching of geography and economics through optional courses. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the methodological principles of integration of the content of geographic and economic education and their implementation in elective courses in gymnasiums and lyceums. To fulfill the idea of integrated education, it is advisable to build the content from the standpoint of the unity of educational subjects. This approach allows integrating the content of geography and economics at the level of creating complex courses, the methodological basis of which are traditional concepts, laws, methods of geographical and economic science. During the generalization and implementation stage of the research, methods, methods and forms for the integrated teaching of geography and economics in gymnasiums and lyceums were developed for the first time; determined and theoretically substantiated methodological principles of selection and structuring of the content of optional courses, which have an integrated character and a geographical and economic component; experimentally tested proposed forms, methods and ways of studying geography and economics through integrated optional courses. Received approvals of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine on the content of training programs for elective courses; issued methodological recommendations "Methodical guidelines for the introduction of integrated elective courses in geography and economics in the educational process of gymnasiums and lyceums", which are implemented in the educational process of ZZSO; a manuscript of the methodological manual was prepared based on the formation of its content apparatus.
