Their prospects for use in medical imaging systems and high-energy physics using a Cherenkov and scintillation double signal in the detector have been established. Technological conditions for the production of large ZnWO4 single crystals, which can be used instead of CdWO4, have been optimized. It was determined that simultaneous doping by Li2CO3, ZnF2, WO3 crystals allows obtaining single crystals with improved scintillation characteristics: light output ~ 15,000 photos. / MeV, energy separation - 8.5%, afterglow - 0.002%. Ways of obtaining high-quality ZnWO4 crystals from raw materials with a high Mo content due to doping with Eu, La, Sm are proposed. The scientific and technical basis for growing high-quality ZnWO4:Sm single crystals for a cryogenic low-background scintillation-bolometric detector for the study of rare alpha decays of samarium isotopes has been developed.
