Improvement of special sources of gamma and microwave radiation for testing the stability and compatibility of the element base and systems of electronic equipment and further development of the radiation-beam method to study the properties of structural materials and reactor materials. popup.stage_title Head Lonin Yurii F., Доктор технічних наук Registration Date 12-01-2023 Organization National Science Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology" popup.description2 Objects of the study 1. the electromagnetic (EM) oscillations of microwave range as generated in the vacuum-less, gyrotropic transmission lines that do not employ electron beams as primary sources of energy; 2. modifications of common structural materials and such for constructing nuclear reactors under the action of high-current relativistic electron beams (HCREB); methods for improving HCREB parameters at the exit from the ‘TEMP-B’ accelerator and increasing its operational stability. The work is aimed at – extending the range of output parameters (oscillation frequency, radiated power and pulse duration) of the vacuum-free generators built around gyrotropic transmission lines; – implementing the optimized versions of a generator of lasting EM oscillations which employs no electron beams (with the optimization reached through theoretical and numerical work); – developing techniques for surface modification and HCREB-aided application of harde-ning, heat resistant or protective coatings upon items of metal, ceramics or graphite; – increasing the X-ray bremsstrahlung output from the ‘Temp-B’ high current accelerator. Principal results: – 3-D numerical experiments have demonstrated the feasibility of generating lasting, low attenuating microwave oscillations under the Cherenkov synchronism conditions in a system that combines a periodic slow-wave structure and a nonlinear transmission line with gyrotropic properties (PS-NLTL); – a test bed, constructed for pioneering experiments on direct conversion of a pulsed current into regular microwave oscillations, and first oscillograms of weakly damped gigahertz-range oscillations at the PS-NLTL output; - methods of material surface modification, remote deposition of thin foils, sputtering using a gas plasma torch are presented; – a scheme is presented that ensures an increase in the output of bremsstrahlung X-ray radiation from the "TEMP-B" accelerator.
