It has to be based on recent models, methods, and software for a web-applications development. The project’s purpose is to support an effective operation of the “Great Ukrainian Encyclopedia” web-version and to provide the encyclopedia’s content users and information resources’ developers with an easy access. This work will be based on developing and improving the components of the e-VUE web-version. For this: the functional design’s concept and the complex hypertext of the web-portal is developed based on the experience of creating the encyclopedia’s web-version; it takes into account the recent trends in the web-oriented information technologies and the processing methods in distributed knowledge management; the groups of the e-VUE typical information objects (semantically similar terms that have common structural elements and features) are identified; the unified design and semantic templates for these objects are developed in order to ensure correct entries, updating, and presenting the information; the elements of an ontological analysis were applied in order to develop a semantic markup of the web-portal terms and to formalize a structure of the identified e-VUE typical information objects; the methods and tools of developing the functional design’s concept and the complex hypertext of the e-VUE web-portal are established; the search and navigation tools both in the natural language component and in the multimedia part of the e-VUE content are improved based on enhanced capabilities of the portal’s functional design and by increasing the expressive power of semantic markup; enhancing the navigation tools for the e-VUE web-portal is ensured.
