Aim: to identify special features of functioning, developing and interacting of the English and Slavic languages in comparative, cognitive and methodological aspects. Methods: general and special methods used in linguistics and literary studies: conceptual and discourse analyses, comparative method, etc. Results. The conceptual features and structure of the concepts FACIAL EXPRESSION and NATURAL DISASTER were defined (based on lexicographic and media sources). The common and distinctive features of the themes and imagery of British and Slavic fiction, namely dystopian prose of the 20th c., were identified. The ways of interaction between English and Slavic languages at the level of lexical borrowings (in gaming slang, terminology), ways of conveying the meanings of realia in translation were described. Motivation types of the names of the UK TV shows, nicknames for the US university sports teams and specifics of derivation and motivation of some brand names were identified. The ways of forming students’ socio-cultural competence and soft skills, ways of using language coaching were described. Degree of implementation: the coursebooks are used in teaching Practice of Oral and Written English, Second Foreign Language, Theoretical English Grammar, and Country Studies. Guidelines on the use of the results: the results can be used at higher and secondary education institutions; in further research in the field of cognitive and comparative linguistics, comparative literary studies, linguocultural studies. Conclusion & prospects: expanding the limits of the application of the comparative-typological approach; further research in the field of methods of teaching languages aimed at finding effective ways of organizing distance learning.
