I. Mechnikov National University popup.description2 A complex approach was applied to the study of benthic ichthyocenoses of the North-Western Black Sea (NWBS). In total of 98 fish species were found in the studied water areas of the NWBS: in the Gulf of Odesa – 80, in the coastal waters of the Snake Island – 76, Dniester pre-estuarine forefront and the Dniester Cay – 64. The results of ichthyological studies allow us to state the relatively stable condition of the intraspecies fish groups in the coastal zone of the NWBS, e.g. the round goby Neogobius melanostomus, the toad goby Mesogobius batrachocephalus, the Pinchuk's goby Ponticola cephalargoides, the ratan goby Ponticola ratan, the mushroom goby Ponticola eurycephalus, the black scorpionfish Scorpaena porcus, the sand sole Pegusa lascaris and the shore rockling Gaidropsarus mediterraneus. These fishes could be the objects of commercial fisheries. An assessment of the state of the gobiid populations in the Gulf of Odesa showed that the industrial pressure on it is insignificant. The decrease in the biomass of the fished part of the gobiid population was noted in recent years. The modern data on feeding and trophic relationships of six demersal fish species in the Gulf of Odesa were obtained. It is shown that there is a low similarity between the parasite fauna of sympatric fish species on the NWBS coastal waters. The black scorpionfish is represented by different populations in the Gulf of Odesa and near the Snake Island, which have no similarities in the parasite communities composition. The round goby is a species highly polluted by microplastics in the Gulf of Odesa and near the Snake Island. The waters of the Odesa Bay and the Odesa Cay were similar by the taxonomic composition of benthic macroinvertebrates. The most unique and distinctive taxonomic composition of the macrozoobenthos is the water area of the Snake Island. The population structure of the Rapa whelk Rapana venosa is similar and quite stable in different areas of the North-Western Black Sea. Th Product Description popup.authors Bondarenko Olena S.
