The subject of the research is the sources of the formation of polyethnic historical and cultural memory in The Manuscripts Department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientififc Library of Ukraine in Lviv. The purpose of the work is to study the ways of formation of Library’s holdings, changes in the ownership of historical and cultural heritage and historical collections. Research methods are structural-functional, historical-comparative, interdisciplinary methods. Monographs “Cultural treasures from Lviv institutions during the Second World War and in the post-war years (1939–1953): displacements and losses” and “Mykhailo Taranko as the editor and publisher of literature for children and youth” were published as well as collections of works “Yaroslav Dashkevych. In the world of a Book: a collection of articles and reviews”, “Correspondence of Yurij Mezhenko and Fedir Maksymenko (1944-1963)”, “Yosyp Gronskyi. Lviv: historical studies”. The representativeness of polyethnic historical and cultural sources is demonstrated on 10 exhibitions. Documents from Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish, Armenian, Italian library and archive collections of the city of Lviv, archives of scientific, cultural and educational and religious institutions, public organizations and private individuals (more than 250 archival collections) was studied. The identified sources were used for the preparation of scientific reference and source studies publications, articles, thematic reviews, in the preparation of databases: “Historical library collections”, “Manuscript and book collections of personal origin from the Library of the National Academy of Sciences: documentary reconstruction on the basis of the reference system of the Manuscripts Department of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientififc Library of Ukraine in Lviv".
