The object of the study is domestic and foreign varieties of tobacco. The subject of the study is the selection value of the gene pool of tobacco cultivars of different geographical origins based on a complex of morphological and economically valuable traits, the effectiveness of their use in the creation of heterosis hybrids. The purpose of the study is a comprehensive assessment of the morphological traits and productivity elements of the initial forms of tobacco when grown in conditions of insufficient moisture and high ambient temperatures. Formation of criteria for the selection of parental components of crossing for the selection of high-yielding varieties of tobacco, suitable for cultivation in the conditions of the forest-steppe of Ukraine. In the conditions of the forest-steppe of Ukraine, for the first time, the peculiarities of the manifestation of economic and valuable characteristics of tobacco collection samples in conditions of insufficient moisture and high temperatures were investigated, and new genetic sources were identified for the morphological characteristics of plants, yield of raw materials, seed productivity and early maturity. The results of the study of the raw material of tobacco based on a complex of the main selection and genetic traits that affect the yield of raw materials, the seed productivity of plants and the duration of their growing season are highlighted. The best varieties of tobacco according to a set of characteristics are proposed for introduction into production and involvement in the selection process.
