The influence of the weight characteristics of the rocket engine on the control characteristics peculiarities of thrust has been established. It is shown that with weight improvement of the propulsion system (reduction of its specific mass) there is a certain threshold value of this specific mass. In the case of propulsion systems with a specific mass less than the threshold, propulsion systems with an engine that allows thrust throttling within sufficiently wide limits along the singular arcs of the trajectory will be optimal. Wherein, a transition from an unregulated rocket engine to an engine with variable thrust is necessary. At the same time, the value of the above-mentioned threshold value decreases with the improvement of the rocket aerodynamic characteristics. Research methods are analytical, analytical-numerical.
