Research object: Genetic polymorphism and adaptation of animals to environmental stress factors. The purpose of the work is to investigate the geographical distribution of Ukrainian breeds of bees, their adaptability to environmental factors, and to reveal the relationship between the loss of aboriginal breeds and the death of bee colonies. Research methods: molecular genetic (PCR, molecular markers, cloning of DNA fragments, sequencing), biochemical (determination of enzyme activity and concentration of metabolites), bioinformatics (analysis of DNA sequences, search in databases); morphometric analysis. Comprehensive monitoring of the distribution of subspecies/breeds of the western honey bee Apis mellifera in the regions of Ukraine was carried out. It has been found that more than 90% of honey bees in Ukraine are hybrid forms that arose as a result of uncontrolled hybridization between the Carpathian, Ukrainian Steppe and Gray Caucasian breeds. Genetic material of the Dark European breed and Western European lines of A. m. carnica is almost absent in Ukraine. A survey of beekeepers revealed threatening environmental factors that cause the death of bee colonies during wintering. Physiological changes in worker bees during preparation for wintering and under the influence of low temperatures were experimentally evaluated and the influence of different diets on bioindicators of stress and survival of bees was studied.
