Registration Date 01-03-2023 Organization Institute of Marine Biology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The report presents the results of the methodological review and practical results of the 2nd phase - "Analysis by methods of geographic information systems and remote sensing of the spatial scale of damage to marine protected areas of Ukraine by oil spills as a result of military action" (2022), the topic "Use of geographic information analysis and remote sensing data for a comprehensive assessment of the ecological state of marine coastal and estuarine ecosystems of Ukraine" (2020-2024), the target research program of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine "Aerospace observations of the marine environment". Objective: Based on geoinformation analysis of radar and spectral-zonal data of Sentinel1 (IW instrument) and Sentinel2 (MSI instrument) satellites, to obtain spatial distribution of oil spill areas in the north-western part of the Black Sea in 2022, spatially assess the extent of oil spills and pollution of marine protected areas in the region. The regional methodology with modern methods of spatial analysis, oil spill detection in radar and optical modes (bands) of satellite imagery was developed and tested. The possibilities of determining oil spills by modern analytical geoinformation platforms were analyzed, taking into account limiting factors. The areas and physico-optical characteristics of oil spills in the waters of the northwestern part of the Black Sea during military actions were determined based on data from Sentinel-1A (IW), Sentinel2 (MSI) and Landsat8 (OLI) satellites. Based on the analytical capabilities of GIS, a method has been developed for spatiotemporal and frequency coverage of marine areas with graphical visualization and statistical analysis. On the example of marine protected marine areas of different categories, estimates of the spatial scale of damage caused to water areas by oil spills as a result of military actions. The report is set out on 44 pages, illustrated with 15 figures and 1 table, contains attachments. Product Description popup.authors Bondarenko Olena S.
