Favorable and unfavorable factors that will determine the viability of the Ukrainian language in the near future were identified, and it was clarified in what way language policy and speakers of the language can influence these factors. A comprehensive comparative analysis of the texts of authentic international treaties with their official translation into Ukrainian was carried out. A contrastive study of the processes of normalization and codification of new Ukrainian and Belarusian literary languages was carried out, which will give an opportunity to characterize the state of the codicological description of the studied languages, as well as the language policy of Ukraine and Belarus in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The problems of norm formation, variation and translation of proper names, onomastic lexicography, linguistic ecology and expertology are analyzed. The phenomenon of reactivation of individual lexemes is characterized, which is determined by social circumstances and is defined as a type of lexical chronism. Changes in the semantic structure of Ukrainian and Russian lexemes, which are used in a foreign cultural linguistic environment, have been recorded, which will contribute to a clearer presentation of dictionary definitions in the lexicographic practice of two closely related languages.
