It was shown that in transgenic plants with a double-stranded RNA suppressor of the wheat proline dehydrogenase gene, the activity of the enzyme of proline catabolism is partially reduced, which is manifested in an increase in the content of free proline and an increase in resistance to osmotic stress. Biotechnological plants have the ability to germinate in conditions of water deficit created by the addition of the non-penetrating osmotic agent mannitol (0.5 M) and in conditions of sulfate salinity (1.2% Na2SO4). Seedlings of biotechnological wheat plants in such stressful conditions are ahead of the control plants by the main indicators of resistance to osmotic stress, biomass accumulation and height.
