The purpose of the research work is to modernize the foreign language communicative training of students of higher education at the first (bachelor) level of higher education in economic specialties on a competency-based basis, which involves the modernization of educational and professional programs, updating the content of training at the interdisciplinary level, and the use of communicative and activity-based teaching methods. The object of the research is the process of professional training of higher education students of the first (bachelor) level of higher education in economic specialties. The subject of the study is to form communicative competence of students of higher education of the first (bachelor) level of higher education in economic specialties by means of foreign languages. Research methods: theoretical - deduction, induction, analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization, modelling; empirical - diagnostic methods (interviews, questionnaires, testing, analysis of the products of students' creative activity), prognostic (expert evaluations, ranking, modelling), observational (observation, self-assessment) to identify the level of communicative competence formation; a pedagogical experiment to identify the effectiveness of the program-content and educational-methodological support of a scientifically based system of formation of communicative competence. Based on the analysis of scientific and pedagogical literature, the study specified its terminological field, revealed the essential characteristics and content of the leading concepts: "communication", "competence", "communicative competence", clarified the essence of the concept "communicative competence, formation and self-improvement of communicative competence.
