It is substantiated that the management of general secondary education institutions acquires the features of anti-crisis management, which is characterised by constant monitoring, identification and localisation of problematic phenomena, prevention of crisis situations. It is proved that monitoring and diagnostics of the school organisation is one of the most important tools that allows to adjust the educational process and ensure its vital activity. The most important indicators include: the organisation of the educational process in general; physical safety of the subjects of the educational process; availability of effective psychological support in the educational institution; functional efficiency of teaching staff. It is noted that an effective mechanism for financing in-service training, where each teacher can freely choose the forms, directions and subjects of educational services, has not been fully developed, and educational authorities force the heads of general secondary education institutions, which do not have financial autonomy, to agree to the choice of one subject of in-service training, trying to avoid paperwork. It is proved that creating a positive image of an educational institution is a multifaceted complex process that covers all areas of life of an educational organisation and requires the professional competence of an educational manager. The article emphasises the importance of developing criteria for the effectiveness of forming a positive image of a general secondary education institution and methods for assessing the image of a school organisation. The importance of mastering the basics of economics and mechanisms of rational allocation of budgetary and effective attraction of extra-budgetary funds by managers in education management is substantiated.
