In 2023, for the first time in Ukraine, a large-scale study of the circulation of zoonotic influenza viruses in a natural reservoir has been started. The sampling of biological material from wild birds of the order Passireformes has begun, samples from 648 individuals of wild birds (oral swabs – 441, cloacal swabs – 455, blood serum – 233, egg yolks – 9, feces samples – 135) from 39 species of birds. A total 1,786 blood serum samples were collected from domestic and wild animals (from pigs – 673; horses – 232; dogs – 469; cats – 348; wild carnivores – 50; other domestic animals – 14) and 194 samples of nasal swabs (168 from pigs, 10 – dogs, 16 – cats). Databases of biological material samples were prepared. An ecological assessment of bird species was carried out and the optimal places and period for further research were determined. A database of zoonotic influenza viruses has been prepared. Serological, virological and molecular biological studies have been started. The results of serological studies indicate the circulation of the influenza A virus in the populations of wild birds (seropositivity was 5.9% to 100%), domestic pigs (seropositivity was from 1% to 100%), domestic animals (seropositivity was from 10% to 100%) and wild horses (seropositivity was 66.6%) and domestic animals (seropositivity was from 3.1% to 25%) and wild carnivores (seropositivity was 19.4%). According to the virological studies of wild birds, 2 isolates of the influenza A virus were obtained. According to the PCR results, the infection rate in pigs is 6.6%, and among birds – 5.55%.
