METHODS OF DETERMINING MINERAL NITROGEN-CONTAINING SUBSTANCES" The object of research is drinking water The purpose of the work was to develop a methodology for determining mineral nitrogen-containing substances in drinking water, as an enterprise standard for use in the testing department (testing laboratory). To solve the set goal, the following tasks are defined in the work: – to develop a standardized method for determining the mass concentration of ammonia and ammonium ions (total); - to develop a standardized method for determining the mass concentration of nitrites. Research methods. The research was carried out by the photometric method, ammonia and ammonium ions were determined at wavelengths of 400–425 nm, and the mass concentration of nitrites was determined at wavelengths of 520 nm. The research was conducted on the basis of the testing laboratory of the SE "KYIVOBLSSTANDARTMETROLOGIA". The developed technique applies to drinking water and establishes photometric methods for determining the mass concentration of ammonia and ammonium ions (total) and the mass concentration of nitrites. The essence of the method for determining ammonia and ammonium ions is the ability of ammonia and ammonium ions to form a yellow-brown compound with Nessler's reagent. The color intensity, which is proportional to the mass concentration of ammonia and ammonium ions, is measured with a photocolorimeter at wavelengths of 400–425 nm. The method of determining the mass concentration of nitrites consists in the ability of nitrites to diazotize sulfanilic acid and form a red-violet color of the diazo compound with 1-naphthylamine. The color intensity, proportional to the nitrite content, is measured on a photocolorimeter at a wavelength of 520 nm.
