The purpose of the research is to identify the potential of a subjective factor to overcome disorganization in society and ensure the sustainability of the development of modern society and its components as a whole system. The research method is dialectical, logical, historical, systematic analysis, decomposition, survey and questionnaire. As a result of the conducted research, the concept of "sustainable development of society" was clarified by two components: 1) "feedback" as an important regulatory lever of sustainable development of society and 2) its "purposefulness" through a certain prism of spiritual values. Based on the analysis of scientific and anti-scientist approaches, the greatest cognitive potential of the views of "restrained scientism" is argued: they realistically assess the possible risks that scientific and technical research activity carries with it, and at the same time argue for the ability of science to solve problems that are the consequences of this activity. The polyaspect connection of general social progress and sustainable development of society at the current stage of history is shown and substantiated. It was established that the sense of social duty, the desire to benefit other people and society as a whole do not occupy a proper place in the motives of young people's behavior, they look for their "selfish" interest in everything; the level of her motivation for public activity in modern conditions is defined as unacceptably low. The conditioning of this state of student motivational factors due to the absence of an active civic position is revealed.
