KEY WORDS: Metallic materials, spectroscopy, microscopy, mechanical properties, surface modification, combined methods, protective coatings, resistance to corrosion, fatigue, wear The purpose of the research work was to establish with the involvement of structural and spectroscopic surface-sensitive methods of physical-chemical analysis and modelling the nature of the relationship between micro- and nano-structural-phase and chemical states in the surface layers of alloys and their properties in the initial and modified states and development on this basis of new combined methods of surface modification of modern alloys, which would contribute to increasing their strength, plasticity, durability, resistance to corrosion and wear. The developed materials can be used in strategic industries of Ukraine (Ukroboronprom, energy, instrument manufacturing, mining, rocket and aerospace industries, automobile manufacturing, etc.), as well as for household purposes. As a result of this work, a physical concept of the relationship between micro- and nanoscale structural-phase and chemical states in the surface layers of alloys and their properties in the initial and modified states was developed and substantiated. On this basis, new combined methods of surface modification of modern alloys have been developed, which contribute to increasing their strength, plasticity, durability, resistance to corrosion and wear with the involvement of high-energy methods of surface modification, intensive plastic deformation of the surface, as well as structural and spectroscopic surface-sensitive methods of physicochemical analysis and modeling.
