Usikov Institute for Radiophysics and Electronics NAS of Ukraine popup.description2  The object of research is the electromagnetic properties of metasurfaces with a polarization-degenerate spectrum of eigenmodes. The purpose of the work is to develop the design of a dielectric and self-complementary metasurface that which have a polarization-degenerate spectrum of waveguide and surface eigenmodes, respectively. Further application of the developed metasurfaces as a detector of chiral compounds and a planar polarizer of highly localized waves. As a result of the implementation of the second stage of the project: 1) The theory of excitation of surface waves of arbitrary required polarization on a self-complementary metasurface was developed. 2) Excitation of surface waves of linear horizontal and vertical, linear diagonal, right- and left-handed circular, and elliptical polarizations is demonstrated, which, in the general case, completely cover the Poincaré sphere of polarization states by using a self-complementary metasurface. The effects of substrate, final size and number of ports are shown to make minor contributions without affecting the main results of this work. 3) Numerical modeling of detection of chiral substances using a planar detector based on a gold film and a developed dielectric metasurface with a polarization-degenerate spectrum was carried out. A three-fold increase in the detection sensitivity of chiral compounds has been numerically demonstrated. 4) The surface wave polarizer on a metasurface made of dielectric cylinders with a polarization-degenerate spectrum was designed and the transformation of the polarization of the waveguide mode at different frequencies, in particular from linear to circular (an analogue of a quarter-wave plate for highly localized waves), was numerically demonstrated.
