Object of study is physical processes of interaction of microwave and infrared radiation by conductive fibers. The purpose of the study: to establish the scientific and technical basis of the application of the effect of strong interaction of electromagnetic radiation with thin fibers in science and technology (including in the military). Research methods: diffraction theory, methods for measuring absorption and scattering of electromagnetic radiation by targets, methods for measuring diffraction pattern parameters, modeling thermal processes in thin fibers when exposed to electromagnetic radiation. The features of diffraction of electromagnetic radiation on thin metal wires and graphite fibers have been studied. The nature of the effect of strong absorption and scattering of microwave and IR radiation by thin fibers and the conditions when this effect manifests itself have been established. An experimental setup has been created to determine the optimal materials and sizes of targets. Designs of protective screens based on thin fibers have been proposed. The results of research can be used to transmit the energy of electromagnetic radiation to small targets without focusing the beam, to create protective screens in the microwave range.
