General approaches to the use of green structures with engineering systems in combination with waste management are considered. At the first time, the placement of plants on green roofs is considered not only according to irradiation, but also the wind regime based on simulation of both phenomena using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The value increase of historical environments damaged by out-of-context structures is considered. The concept of compensatory greening is analyzed proposing a new approach – enlarging landscaping to make construction beneficial to the environment. Experimental studies of carbon dioxide gas exchange in various plants were performed. The four-zone method and an experimental setup were developed. A new device for monitoring airtightness was invented, the concept of the critical radius of thermal insulation was refuted using the variable heat transfer coefficient of the outer surface, the concept of spectral re-weighting was introduced to recalculate reduced photometric quantities for different light sources and receivers introducing the system of such quantities phytocandela-phytolumen-phytolux. Experimental studies and simulation by CFD of the thermal characteristics of plant layers of vertical and horizontal greening were performed. The methodology has been improved and the noise-absorbing properties of plant layers have been investigated with an explanation of resonance phenomena at certain frequencies. The technology of an inversion green roof made of domestic materials with rainwater storage has been improved. The practical application is considered on the example of a project at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture.
