Experiments were conducted on Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive rats, in which metabolic disorders were reproduced by consuming a high-fat diet and subjected to hypoxic effects. It was shown that a high-fat diet caused insulin resistance with moderate hyperglycemia without significant disturbances in lipid metabolism. Insulin resistance led to an imbalance of pro- and antioxidant processes in mitochondria, while hypoxic preconditioning promoted the activation of antioxidant systems. Violations in the operation of the electron transport chain and a partial reversal of the protective effects of hypoxic preconditioning in insulin resistance were also observed.
