The research goal is to enhance performance characteristics of military equipment components to world standards by developing theoretical basis and research tools for contact interaction and elasto-plastic deformation of new materials and surface coatings based on variational formulations, microstructural models and parameter studies as well as recommendations for enhanced design solutions. Research methods – methods of continuum mechanics and materials science; methods of the theory of variational inequalities; variational methods of minimum total energy for a mechanical system to determine the stress-strain state of contacting bodies; methods of finite and boundary elements applied to the analysis of contact interaction of elements of military equipment components. An improved theory of the contact interaction of elements of military equipment objects has been developed, taking into account the elastoplastic behavior of new materials and surface coatings based on the development of the theory of variational inequalities and the Kalker variation principle, as well as laws and recommendations regarding the formation of enhanced service properties of elements of military equipment objects, their materials and coatings.
