Technological transitions for obtaining a forging with minimal porosity are proposed. Peculiarities of solid-phase interaction of Si3N4–Nb powder mixtures of stoichiometric composition according to the reaction 4Nb + Si3N4 = 4NbN + 3Si during heat treatment in vacuum were studied. Synthesis regimes of NbN–Si3N4 composite powders are proposed, which are developed taking into account the established regularities of interaction of silicon nitride as a precursor with niobium. A study of the composite powders consolidation by the spark-plasma sintering method was carried out. The use of non-linear IPS regimes allowed to obtain homogeneous structures with a grain size of less than 500 nm and a high relative density of 0.97 at relatively low temperatures. An experimental batch of dense ball samples with a diameter of 15 mm was made from the synthesized powder of the optimal composition using the IPS method.
